Underground Love Letter received its title after the painting was complete. I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted this particular piece to emote, so I started with a very loose application process. I added colors here and there as the days went on, but making sure I didn’t really critique myself or it. I’d pull it up on the easel, slap a color on, and removed it to another area of the studio. I think that sitting and staring at the work in progress can be detrimental to the outcome especially if you’re looking for that ‘haphazard’ appearance. I liken it to a celebrity’s messy hair. Its got that aspect of just waking out of bed, but you know it look an army of specialists and 3 hours to make it look that way.
